  SIKOSTART 3RW22

  In addition to soft starting and soft deceleration, the SIKOSTART 3RW22 motor control devices provide numerous functions for higher-level requirements. They cover a performance range of up to 710 kW (at 400 V).

  Combinations of various starting, operating and deceleration possibilities ensure an optimum adaptation to the application-specific requirements. Operation and commissioning can be carried out either conventionally with switches and potentiometers or conveniently using a commercial PC and an RS232 interface.

  Configuration

  The 3RW22 solid-state motor controllers are designed for easy starting conditions. J_Load < 10 x J_Motor. In case of heavy starting or increased starting frequency, a larger device must be selected. For accurate dimensioning, use the Win-SIKOSTART selection and simulation program.

  If necessary, an overload relay for heavy starting must be selected where long starting times are involved. PTC sensors are recommended. This also applies for the ramp-down modes smooth ramp-down, pump ramp-down and DC braking, because during the ramp-down time in these modes, an additional current loading applies in contrast to free ramp-down.

  No capacitive elements are permitted in the motor feeder between the SIKOSTART and the motor (e.g. compensation equipment).

  All elements of the main circuit (such as fuses, controls and overload relays) should be dimensioned for direct starting, following the local short-circuit conditions. Fuses, controls and overload relays must be ordered separately.

  The harmonic component load for starting currents must be taken into consideration for the selection of motor starter protectors (selection of release).

  Use with EEx motors

  The devices are suitable for the starting of EEx motors with types of protection "d" , " p" and "n" provided the respective operating mode is not likely to result in any notable influencing of heat increase by the starting operation.

  Explanation:
  Type of protection

  • "d" = flameproof enclosure
  • "p" = pressureproof enclosure
  • "n" = designed for Zone 2

  SIEMENS has received a confirmation from the German national metrology institute (PTB) in Braunschweig that, in relation to motors with the type of protection "d", there are no objections to including starting with SIKOSTART within the scope of the conditions upon which the general conformity certificates are based, and that there is no need to expressly mention this.

  Nor will express mention in the certificate of confirmation issued for the motors be required in the future.

  The devices are suitable for the starting of EEx motors with types of protection "e", provided the starting is not a case of heavy starting. The ramp time on the device must be set to a value which is at most equivalent to T_E of the machine. Test Report No. 3.53-542/96 from the PTB is available.

  Solid-state device protection, RS 232 serial PC interface and COM SIKOSTART PC communication program

  The 3RW22 solid-state motor controllers have not only solid-state device protection but also a PC interface for communication.

  Together with the COM SIKOSTART PC program it enables the simple parameterization, control and monitoring of SIKOSTART 3RW22 using a PC or a notebook.

  After a parameter set is entered it can be stored in the PC for calling up again when a device with the same operating mechanism is next being parameterized.

  The parameters can be entered more exactly and independently of each other than is possible using potentiometers.

  In addition it is possible for 2 or 3 parameter sets to be stored in the SIKOSTART 3RW22. This makes the devices ideal for use on Dahlander motors, pole-changing motors and wind energy systems, and for the serial starting of motors with different ratings or loads.

  Win-SIKOSTARTER selection and simulation program

  With this software, you can simulate and select all Siemens soft starters, taking into account various parameters such as mains properties, motor and load data, and special application requirements.

  The software is a valuable tool, which makes complicated, lengthy manual calculations for determining the required soft starters superfluous.
